Case Study: Kev's '64 Beetle Restoration

This has been a major restoration project. When Kev first brought her in, she barely managed the journey to the workshop. On first inspection I discovered that she had no brakes, poor electrics and seriously damaged wheel bearings (see below):

And she also had no heater channels and no attached floor!

The first job was to strip her back and cut out all the rust, then we could start replacing with fresh metal.

Then onto the bodywork. Filling, primering, and then I could start preping for the top coat.

We rescued as many original body panels, but the front wings and bonnet had to be replaced. Finally we could start to apply the Ferarri Rosso Red top coat.

The body panels were bolted back on and I've now started to rewire the electrics.

Wiring up headlights and indicators.

Electrics finished. Now she can see and go round corners!

Nearly finished, and starting to put the shiney bits on!

but then..................Kev had an idea!

The fiberglass back section was cut out and replaced with an original metal section (to prevent future fiberglass cracking)

After a lot of headscratching the new panel now fits like a glove!

Watch this space for the final result!
